B’Faso, Cameroon Advance To AFCON Quarter-Finals, Host Gabon Crashes Out

Host of the Africa Cup of Nations Gabon crashed out of the tournament alongside minnows Guinea Bissau, as Burkina Faso and Cameroon finished first and second in Group A to reach the quarter-finals.
Gabon and Cameroon drew 0-0 in their clash on Sunday night, while Burkina Faso beat Guinea Bissau 2-0 – a set of results that meant Burkina Faso topped Group A with 5 points, the same as Cameroon but with a better goal aggregate.
Gabon dominated the opening stages of the game with their main striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang guilty of missing a sitter just four minutes into the game. But the Indomitable Lions stood firm at the back till the dying minutes of the encounter and ultimately, the match ended in a goalless draw.
Burkina Faso won the group on goal difference after a 2-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau in Franceville.
A Rudinilson Silva own goal in the first-half and a Bertrand Traore 57th-minute effort gave the 2013 runners-up Burkina Faso the win that saw them clinch qualification and top spot.
