Angry Nigerians Take Shots At Organisers For Staging Big Brother Naija In SA
A tirade of some sort is being launched by Nigerians on social media at the organisers of the Big Brother reality TV series after it came to light that the second edition of Big Brother Naija is being shot in South Africa.
Nigerian’s are not comfortable that the reality TV show is being staged outside the country especially after it was also discovered that the maiden edition of the ‘The Voice Nigeria’ (another reality TV show) was also shot and staged in South Africa.
“So they could not have #BBNaija in Nigeria… They preferred South Africa. Which is the cause: unstable power supply or recession??” @Verified_Moi posted on his Twitter time-line.
An obviously incensed @Jmapelle_Max wrote thus on his Twitter page; “First, The Voice Nigeria was held in South Africa and now Big Brother Naija. No wahala. Next time we’ll celebrate Independence Day in Gabon”.
Coined to suit the viewing interest of the Nigerian viewers who largely expressed displeasure over the controversial “Shower Hour” and nudity on the original Big Brother series, Big Brother Nigeria was launched 10 years ago.
This year’s edition hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu will run for 78 days and the winner of the 11-week contest will smile home with the lump sum of N25 million cash prize and a brand new Kia Sorento SUV car.
In the first edition of the show, twelve housemates vied for the coveted $100,000 prize money by performing various mental and physical tasks. At the end of a three-month stay in the house, Katung Aduwak emerged winner.
The show also produced other notable stars such as Africa Magic’s Tinsel actor, Gideon Okeke, and Ebuka, this year’s host.
